Towers shaped like crossed swords

Commonly referred to as the “Moon Tower” because of its crescent moon-like shape, the Katara Towers in Lusail, Qatar, actually represent two traditional interlocking scimitars. In September 2022, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdul Aziz Al Thani, unveiled the new national emblem of the State of Qatar, which incorporates the four historical symbols of the country already present in the emblem in use from 1976 to 2021: the two crossed swords synonymous with honour, pride and power, the palm trees and the sea characteristic of the country, and the traditional dhow used by pearl fishermen. The main colours of the emblem are the purple and white of the national flag and the golden yellow of the desert dunes.
