This member of the Lasotè association participates in a traditional agricultural system of mutual aid which had withered due to the rural exodus in the 1960s and 1970s, even if pockets of resistance had remained in the communes of Fonds Saint Denis, Le Carbet, Le Morne-Vert, Bellefontaine and Schoelcher in the north of Martinique. After almost fifty years of absence, the 'lasotè', practiced from Terreville to Le Prêcheur, was upgraded in 2008 under the impetus of the Lasotè association, bringing up to date not only the ancestral agricultural practices of mutual aid but also the whole organization of the rural societies of the 'mornes' (hills) and their fundamental values. Among them : the respect for life and the land, the valuing of all illustrated by the adage 'Tout moun sé moun' (every man is a man), social empowerment and innovation, mutual aid between inhabitants and intergenerational learning. So many criteria in line with the contemporary concept of a Social and Solidarity Economy.
