This photo of Robert Marichy at work in his turning workshop in Arinthod (Jura) illustrates the woodturning method called 'turning between centers'. The piece of wood is held and worked between two points : that of the fixed headstock and that of the mobile headstock. ‘Turning between centers’ defines the method of fixing and driving a wooden piece by two opposing points : on the motor side of the machine, the output spindle receives the central driving point ; on the opposite side, the tailstock receives a rotating tip in free rotation thanks to an internal bearing.
