Beyond their tourist development, notably through the tribal stays, the main activity of the valleys of the Poindimié region remains agriculture. The local tribes practice a traditional food polyculture around yam and taro and sell part of their production on the roadside in 'road shops' or on the stalls of the various markets. The coffee production continues despite its decline since the 1960s.
