The influx of tourists on the slopes and ridges of the Massif du Sancy in summer for hiking and in winter for skiing, brings the problem of soil preservation in high-traffic areas. A re-sodding has been undertaken since 1990, as it is necessary for soil preservation, for the resistance of snow, as well as for the survival of agro-pastoralism threatened by ski resorts’ development. Wooden steps have even been placed where erosion required it and along the very visited ridges.
