The lathe is a way to shape all kinds of solid materials - from wood to metal, clay to stone - quickly and with an extreme precision and to make all shapes regular. Its operating mode is completely original : unlike almost all the usual handling operations where the mobile tool attacks the stationary material with an infinite variety of movements, with a lathe it is the material which moves on the cutting edge or the tip of a stationary tool.
