The village of Orschwiller is located at the foot of the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle in the Bas-Rhin. Already known at the time of Charlemagne under the name of Andaldovillare, the place depended on the priories of Lièpvre and Saint-Hippolyte. When the castle was built in 1147, Orschwiller became its fiefdom. From then on, its destiny was linked to that of Haut-Koenigsbourg. After the Revolution, the town of Sélestat recovered ownership of the ruined castle and offered it to Emperor Wilhelm II, who had it completely restored in the early 20th century. The village has been German and then French since 1871, and returned to France in 1944.
