Eretmochelys imbricata o tortuga de carey, están en peligro crítico de extinción. Es un quelonio. Se encuentra en los océanos Atlántico e Indo-Pacífico.
Su aspecto es similar al de las tortugas marinas. Se distingue por su pico puntiagudo y curvo y prominente mandíbula superior. Vive en arrecifes de coral donde encuentra su alimento preferido que son las esponjas. Es de los pocos animales que puede alimentarse con organismos con sílice. También come medusas.
Su gran depredador y el motivo por el que está casi extinta es por culpa del ser humano que la persigue por su carne y concha. Sobre todo se caza por chinos y japoneses.
