The appearance and persistence of morning valley mists are strongly linked to the topography of the place and the microclimates it maintains. The cooling which causes condensation results from a nightly loss of heat or the passage of a mass of moist air over a cold surface but its enrichment in water vapor occurs near watercourses or vegetation, two elements locally very present around Saint-Claude in the Jura.
