The topographical description of the volcanic domes takes into account the degree of the slopes, the width of the summit, the height / diameter ratio, the smooth or irregular appearance of the surface and the consistency of the rocky material in the outcrop. These five variously combined elements define nine topographical types of domes grouped into three families : the slender domes (photo), the cupola domes and the bell domes.
