A Breton myth reports that Hélène, daughter of King Hoël was kidnapped by a giant, and buried on this rock. The name of the islet would then come from a corruption of Tombe Hélène. A strange character lived there alone, he was named the Marquis of Tombelaine. He was blessed with superhuman strength and sometimes swam to shore. When he received wages for bringing tourists across, he hid his tresor under a rock mixed with pitch and shells. But the next day he had forgotten where! On March 30, 1892, the sea triumphed. He had been drinking, he began to swim 2.3 kilometers then a congestion deprived him of his strength, very close to the coast. The treasures of the Marquis de Tombelaine were never found.
