Between Arromanches and Grandcamp-Maisy, the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial of Colleville-sur-Mer overlooks Omaha Beach. It houses the graves of 9,387 soldiers who fell during the D-Day and the following months of the Battle of Normandy. A memorial with a monumental statue, a small central chapel, and the Jardin des Disparus (Garden of the Disappeared) adorn the 172 acres (70 ha) of the site. The crosses and the stars of David are all turned towards the USA.
