Sainte-Odile Chapel is the focal point of the sanctuary for the pilgrims. It is there that Saint Odile died and lies. The massive stone tomb shelters her relics. There, all of Alsace, for centuries, has knelt says René Bazin. The walls around the tomb are covered with Renaissance-style oak woodwork. It is also surmounted by two 17th-century bas-reliefs showing Saint Odile receiving the baptism from the hands of Saint Erhard. They also represent her father, Adalric, delivered from the flames of the Purgatory by the prayers of his daughter.
