Dwarf mongooses are diurnal and gregarious. They live in bands of 8 to 30 members in a matriarchal structure where only the matriarch has the right to reproduce. The inferior alpha male spends its time scrutinizing the numerous dangers while the other mongooses wash and play. The group members use their incisors to clean each other or themselves. Mongooses continuously communicate with each other vocally thanks to a wide range of chirps and whistles.
