Tiles produced in Burgundy

0
The glazed and polychrome tiles of the roofs of the Hospices de Beaune in the Côte-d'Or department originate from local production. From the Middle Ages to the Old Regime, the tile factories that produced them mainly operated within a triangle delimited by the cities of Dijon, Nuits-Saint-Georges, and Saint-Jean-de-Losne. Relayed from 1860 to 1940 by the industrial sites of Montchanin, Écuisses, and Chalon-sur-Saône in the Saône-et-Loire department, they are still manufactured today by the tile factory of Chagny that perpetuates this Burgundian heritage.
