Three uplifts of limestone slabs

The Dentelles de Montmirail massif takes the form of three parallel uplifts of limestone slabs that extend in a mountainous arc of 12,355 acres (5,000 ha) from the Ouvèze river to the west to the Mont Ventoux to the east. The southernmost uplift is the Clapis chain - fragmented into the Grand Montmirail, the Salle, and the Saint-Christophe rock - which rises to 1,814 ft (553 m). Then come the Dentelles Sarrasines in the center, which rise up to 2,188 ft (667 m) and, to the north, the Grande Montagne or Grand Travers chain that prolongs the crest of Saint-Amand, the highest point of the Dentelles at 2,368 ft (722 m) above sea level.
