Bordered by the Seine estuary, Fatouville-Grestain extends in the northwest of the Eure department and the Normandy region. The name Grestain appeared around 1040 when Count Herluin of Conteville founded an abbey where William the Conqueror's mother was buried. In 1743, Grestain was attached to the municipality of Carbec. It was not until 1844 that Grestain-Carbec and Fatouville merged into Fatouville-Grestain.
