Three generations of military architecture
0
0
Three generations of military architecture are grouped together in the forts of La Hougue and Tatihou from Vauban to the Atlantic Wall. Between 1694 and 1699, Vauban built powerful towers equipped with cannons and surrounded by ditches. Gradually abandoned in the 18th century, it was not until 1860 that the moats were dug again and the powder magazines covered with earth for protection. During World War I, the forts housed German and Austro-Hungarian war prisoners. At the time of the Second World War, the Germans added two blockhouses equipped with Tobruks (holes for machine guns).
