Three churches and a cemetery
0
0
In the Middle Ages, Riquewihr was known by the saying “Drei Kirchen auf einem Kirchhofe”, three churches on a cemetery. The small village was, indeed, home to three places of worship. The first, dedicated to Sainte Marguerite, stood from the 12th to the 15th century. A pilgrimage sanctuary in the name of Notre Dame was erected in the 14th century. Finally, The Saint Erard church, linked to the nearby hospital, also dated from the end of the 14th century. According to custom, the cemetery then surrounded the Church of Sainte Marguerite.
