Three categories of raw materials

The raw materials composing glass belong to three categories. The base consists of vitrifiers (mainly silica in the form of sand) that create the vitreous structure. Fluxes (sodium or potassium carbonate) promote the passage of silica to a vitreous state. Finally, stabilizers (lime, magnesia, alumina) prevent the deterioration over time of the molten glass by the atmospheric agents.
