This is "Pirata" (Pirate), a Scarlet Macaw with a severed leg that arrived to Macaw Mountain through a confiscation by the wildlife authorities. After a lot of time and effort from both her and the staff "Pirata" slowly but surely became more confident and was eventually released into the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Copán. She now lives the good life flying over the Sacred Valley of the Scarlet Macaw, but comes back to Macaw Mountain regularly. Her determination to overcome her disability and soar beyond her difficulties is an inspiration to all who get the chance to spot her but especially to the team who took care of her.
