The work of the monks of the Abbey of Cîteaux

In the heart of the Côte-d'Or, the Côte de Nuits vineyard takes its name from the town of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The Côte de Nuits is inseparable from the monks of Cîteaux Abbey. This abbey is located next to Nuits-Saint-Georges. It was the Cistercian monks who developed and improved the vineyard and the Château du Clos de Vougeot in the 12th century. Manual harvesting is one of the many legacies of the monks.
