When visitors stroll through the picturesque alleys of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, they may be struck by the presence of the old woodturners' stalls, now occupied by contemporary artisans and traders. The woodturning industry began in the 15th century after the Hundred Years War. Its success is such that in 1810, the village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie had no less than 38 woodturners, mainly creating taps for wine barrels.
