The winds of Leucate and 'La Franqui'

A seaside resort near Montpellier, Leucate is known all over the world. The strong winds that blow there are the main reason for this worldwide fame. The tramontana wind and the Marin wind blow very hard throughout the year to the delight of the best windsurfing, kitesurfing and wingfoil specialists. On the 7.5 miles (12 km) of sand of ‘La Franqui’ beach, the winds blow 300 days a year. The beach is also very well-known throughout the world of wind sports since the first Mondial du Vent (World Wind Sports Competition) in 1997.
