"Voies Navigables de France" (Navigable Waterways of France) has been working for several years with the task of monitoring the evolution of the colored canker. It is a disease that attacks the famous plane trees of the Canal du Midi. This mission involves managing the felling of contaminated trees and supervising the replanting of new replacement species, while preserving the biodiversity of the Canal. More than 1,800 bird nesting boxes and bat lodges, for example, have been installed on the banks of the waterway and its surroundings to protect endangered species.
