The village of Baume-les-Messieurs is located next to the eponymous 9th century abbey, at the end of a narrow glacial blind valley carved into the first Jura plateau at the confluence of two streams, the Dard and the Seille. The Dard - which springs from the Caves of Baume - and the Seille - whose valley leads to Voiteur - were both born in the alveoli of the blind valley on which the belvedere of Granges offers a view.
