A quarter of the territory of the Chastreix-Sancy National Nature Reserve is occupied by horizontally structured forests. These mountain forests are composed of 80% hardwood, 14% softwood and 6% hardwood-softwood mixes. Beech trees dominate, but there are also common ash trees, aspen trees, plane maples, warty birches, rowan trees and marsault willows.
