The tradition of the 'Fir-President' was born in Jura at the end of the 19th century. It gives rise to the official election of the most majestic fir in the forest during a festive ceremony which brings together foresters, elected officials and the local public. The new 'President' is then honored and indicated on the maps and walking trails. It is preserved from the annual cut until its death, natural or due to lightning, which marks the election of another President. The 'Fir-President' is often a fir, generally more robust and taller than the spruce.
