The town of Jean Giono

Nestled between five hills planted with olive trees, Manosque extends between the Luberon and the Gorges du Verdon. The city is linked to the life and work of the writer Jean Giono (1895-1970), mostly known for The Horseman on the Roof (1951) and considered one of the greatest French writers of the 20th century. Born and dead in Manosque, he was buried in the municipal cemetery among the first graves to the left of the entrance, under an olive tree.
