In the mid-twentieth century, like many localities in the Vaucluse department, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue turned to tourism and antiques' trade. They gradually replaced the industries linked to the hydraulic power of the Sorgue river. Having become the world's third-largest antiques trading platform, the city holds two annual fairs, at Easter and at the Assumption, which attract visitors and buyers from all over the world.
