The third RAMSAR site in Normandy

The Risle (formerly Rizela) is full of fish, and its ponds and marshes shelter rich biodiversity at the gates of Pont-Audemer. The wetlands are closely monitored and have been part of a RAMSAR site since 2018. It is the third in Normandy after the bays of Mont-Saint-Michel and Veys. The abundant phytoplankton attracts wading birds like herons and great egrets, while diving birds such as tufts and pochards feed on freshwater fish.
