A ‘tastevin’ (or wine tester) is a silver-plated metal cup used to taste wine. Traditionally in the use of Burgundy winemakers, who would always carry one in their pocket, the tastevin is also the emblem of the ‘Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin’ (Brotherhood of the Tastevin’s Knights). The shape of the tastevin, with its hollowed bottom and rim, reflects light better than simple glass. It makes it thus easier to observe, smell, and taste the wine.
