The Galas aqueduct bridge that spans the Sorgue river at Fontaine-de-Vaucluse is the most monumental achievement of the Carpentras canal. It was, as such, chosen as the symbol of the entire canal during its official inauguration in 1857. It consists of a blending combining local ashlar and limestone rubble hammered with the two-points hammers of the quarrymen.
