The sun-stone
0
0
It has been exploited since Gallo-Roman times. The stone of Jaumont is also called pierre de soleil (sun-stone) because of its luminosity. Sarcophagi and stelae discovered in the archaeological sites around Metz were already built in this local stone. It logically was chosen during the construction of Saint Stephen's sanctuary and later the Cathedral of Metz. Its golden yellow color under the sunlight and its location on Sainte-Croix hill make it visible even from the outskirts of the city.
