The Fanfonne Guillierme manade (herd) is named in honor of the first Camargue herdswoman, an icon in the region. Since she died in 1989, the village of Aimargues has celebrated Fanfonne Guillierme, distinguished as Camargue's ambassador in 1975 for the International Women's Year in Paris. After the death of this skilled rider, her former gardians (herdsmen), the Espelly brothers, took over her herd in the same spirit. The annual celebrations of the life of the founder of the Guillierme manade herald the opening of the bullfighting season, and Aimargues is adorned with azure and gold in her honor.
