The Explorers
The Sacré-Cœur is made of Château-Landon stones, coming from the quarries in the south of Seine-et-Marne. They have an amazing property because they are resistant to water and secrete a white substance when it rains, called calcin. It hardens in the sun and keeps the stone always white. Since its construction in 1875, the facade of the Sacré Coeur has never been renovated.
