The Explorers
Both a witness to the volcanic activity of Cantal and a crossroads of Haute-Auvergne, the locality of Murat is nicknamed the Stone Gate of the Cantal Mounts. It is surrounded by three ancient volcanic chimneys, including the rocks of Bredons and Chastel-sur-Murat, surmounted by Romanesque chapels. The rock of Bonnevie, dominated by the white Virgin of Notre-Dame-de-la-Haute-Auvergne, also extends near Murat.
