The narwhal’s “tusk” is flexible while looking rigid. The enamel is very thin so it can easily break and does not push back. The narwhal can then perform a kind of filling to avoid the formation of a cavity: it can fill the hole with gravels or challenge a young male in a duel to break its tooth’s extremity and use it as a plug.
