The smallest built-up islet in Martinique

Pelé islet is one of eight islets in the Baie du François. So named because of its flat, rocky, dry, and virgin soil, it is located south of Pointe Duplessis and Thierry islet in alignment with Long islet, to which it is very close. Devoid of any permanent inhabitant, it extends over 429 ft (131 m) in length, 111 ft (34 m) in width, and rises to 13 ft (4 m) above sea level. It would have been formed from hyaloclastites (lava solidified upon contact with water) emanating from the eruptions of neighboring islets and is deteriorating under the effect of marine erosion. Its pontoon allows the docking of boats. Pelé islet is occupied by a dwelling that would belong to a white Creole or Béké.
