Impressive by the abundance of its scarlet bloom, the flamboyant tree (Delonix regia) has a semi-permanent foliage which spreads out in a sort of crown-shaped dome above its smooth, clear trunk in the young tree. Its broad branches bear 11.8 to 19.6in (30-50cm) long bifoliate leaves divided into 10 to 25 pairs of elliptical to oblong leaflets.
