In soap making, the pasting (mixture of vegetable fats and soda) is carried out at a high temperature to accelerate the saponification reaction. Since fats and soda are immiscible, the mixture must be stirred. The chemical reaction is facilitated by using a soap base from a previous manufacture to form an emulsion between the oily and aqueous phases.
