The seat of the former diocese of Lectoure

Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais Cathedral in Lectoure was the seat of the former diocese of Lectoure until November 29, 1801. At that date, Pope Pius VII attached the territory of the diocese of Lectoure to that of Auch's. The cathedral took the place of many buildings previously built on the same site. Its location housed Roman temples, as evidenced by the many taurobolic altars (altars for the sacrifice of bulls) discovered during the reconstruction of the cathedral's choir in 1540. Saint-Gervais-et-Saint-Protais Cathedral has been listed as a Historical Monument since October 31, 1912.
