The 'Salins d'Hyères' site is made up of two geographically distinct units, the 'Vieux Salins' to the east of Hyères and the 'Salin des Pesquiers' to the south in the double tombolo - i.e coastal strip of sediments - of the Giens peninsula. Covering a total area of 900 hectares, the two sites are 2.9 miles (4.81 km) apart.
