The Saint-Nicolas bridge was the first bridge built to cross the Yonne River. It is named after the Holy patron of the bargemen. It was initially made out of wood, but after several floodings, the broken parts were replaced by stone arches. In the 16th century, constructions and houses were on the bridge. After several fires, the bridge became a trade route, that joins the old city to the left bank of Joigny.
