An iconic figure of Beziers, the Gothic cathedral of Saint-Nazaire is built between the 12th and 15th centuries. It is classified as a Historical Monument and is attached to the archdiocese of Montpellier. The cathedral was erected on a high point dominating the plain of the Orb. It was born amidst troubled circumstances. Its construction was ordered to replace the former Romanesque cathedral, destroyed by a fire during the ransack of Beziers in 1209.
