The scientific community replaced that he had passed away. A Santa Marta Sabrewing Beetle, a species of large hummingbird, was photographed by an amateur photographer last spring in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta region of northern Colombia. The Santa Marta Sabrewing is on the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species due to habitat destruction. Scientists hope the hummingbird snapshot will spur authorities to protect the species and its wider habitat.
