The return of night trains

In 1914, the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits (CIWL) connected Paris to Bordeaux by night in 12 hours. A comfortable journey in first class only. After having reached its peak between 1925 and 1970, the night train service, competing with the TGV, the plane, and road travel, declined until its near disappearance. In 2017, only two night-time connections to the Alps (Briançon) and the Pyrenees (Latour-de-Carol) were still in operation. But the night train has not said its last word. The Paris-Nice has made its return on 20 May 2021, the Paris-Tarbes is announced for 12 December 2021, while other lines are expected to be added in the coming years.
