The remains of the ocher industry

The Provençal Colorado is a former open-air ocher quarry that operated from 1871 to 1993, when Roger Arnaud, the last ocher worker in Rustrel, carried out the final ocher washing. The landscape it offers today was shaped by the ocher industry, of which it preserves the natural vestiges of the working facades and basins and the industrial ones of the water pipes and engines. The site - listed under the law of May 2, 1930, protecting the natural monuments and sites classified as historical - is managed by the Colorado Association of Rustrel (A.C.R).
