Built in the 18th century at the request of Duke Charles-Emmanuel III of Savoy on the foundations of the aging 12th-century church, Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Church dominates the village of Èze with its two-story square bell tower. Its single nave is punctuated by side chapels separated from the choir by a triumphal arch characteristic of Baroque art. Each of the chapels is dedicated to a saint or a function: prayers to the deceased, the Virgin, or holy healers such as Saint Grat, protector of harvests, and Saint Francis of Assisi, protector of animals. They reflect the concerns of the inhabitants of Èze during the Enlightenment period.
