The Rats islet in the Baie du Robert
0
0
The Rats islet is part of the islets of the Baie du Robert, off the eastern coast of Martinique. Despite its small size (1.6 acres / 0.65 ha), it is inhabited and administratively linked to the municipality of Le Robert. Circumscribed by highly eroded cliffs, the islet culminating at 32.8 ft (10 m) above sea level undergoes an accentuated marine influence. At low tide, its northern tip forms an arm of land and connects it to the northeast with the Eau islet, giving it the appearance of a rat with its tail, hence its name. Unlike that of most of the other islets in the Baie du Robert, its biotope is not officially protected.
